Getting Involved

New Member Committee
Joan Adler - Co-Chair
Robin Weiss - Co-Chair

It is the purpose and function of The New Member Committee to both recruit members for the congregation, and to ensure the new members are made to feel welcome in the Temple.

With respect to the recruiting of new members, the Committee must ensure that Temple Sinai is known throughout the community, and that is perceived to be an institution that can play a positive role in the lives of those seeking affiliation with a religious congregation. The task of the Committee is to initiate and maintain contact with all new members from the time that they join, to introduce them to the clergy and the lay leaders of the Temple, to explain to them the ways in which the various parts of the institution operate, and to familiarize them with all aspects of the life of the congregation. It must be prepared to answer any questions that they may have, or to direct them to those who can answer them. Above all, it is the task of the committee to help new members overcome any initial sense of isolation within a large institution in which they may at first know relatively few people. The Committee must try to ensure that such newcomers are made to feel that they are welcome members of the Temple community.

To this end the committee plans several special opportunities for new and prospective members of Temple Sinai including a prospective Shabbat, a new member dinner, and welcome baskets at Chanukkah time.
